What a bathroom remodel typically costs

ScopeWhat it usually includesTypical US range
Light refreshPaint, new faucet and vanity top, mirror, lighting, re-grouting, accessories$2,500–$7,000
Full updateNew vanity, toilet, tub or shower, tiling, flooring, fan and lighting$10,000–$25,000
High-endWalk-in shower, floor-to-ceiling tile, double vanity, layout changes$25,000–$50,000+

These are broad national ranges. A small bathroom with the same layout costs far less than a primary bath where the drains move, so the calculator prices your room from your photos and your location instead of an average.

What the calculator prices

  • Vanity, sink and faucet, single or double
  • Tub, shower or a tub-to-shower conversion
  • Wall and floor tiling, and waterproofing
  • Toilet
  • Ventilation fan, lighting and electrical work
  • Plumbing, including moving fixtures
  • Strip-out, painting and finishing

Each one is its own line with a low–high cost, how long it takes, and whether it’s a DIY job or one for a contractor.

What changes the price most

  • Moving fixtures. Keeping the toilet, shower and sink where they are avoids moving drains, the most expensive part of many bathrooms.
  • How much you tile. Tiling wet areas only costs much less than floor-to-ceiling tile.
  • The shower. A new shower over the tub, a tiled walk-in and a frameless glass enclosure are very different budgets.
  • What’s behind the tiles. Water damage found during strip-out is common in older bathrooms. Keep 10–20% spare.
  • Where you live. Plumbers and tilers charge very different rates from one area to the next.

How the calculator works

  1. Photograph the bathroom as it is today. One to three photos. Wide shots from the doorway and the opposite corner work best.
  2. Say what you have in mind. Pick a light refresh, a full update or high-end, DIY or contractor, and what you'd like to change. Or let us suggest what's worth doing.
  3. Get your estimate in about a minute. The free preview shows the scope and every task. The full report adds every cost, the value each change adds, before & after images and a printable PDF for a one-time $9.99.

Questions

How accurate is the bathroom remodel cost calculator?

It gives low–high ranges based on what it can see in your photos and typical prices where you live. Use it to set a budget and to check contractor quotes. It is not a fixed quote: problems hidden behind walls or under floors, like old wiring or water damage, can’t be seen in a photo.

Is it free?

The preview is free with no sign-up: you see the scope and the list of tasks. The full report with every cost, value added, before & after images and a PDF is a one-time $9.99. No subscription.

Does it work for a small bathroom or a half bath?

Yes. It prices what it sees, so a small bathroom or powder room gets a smaller scope and smaller numbers. Pick a light refresh if you only want cosmetic changes.

Does it work outside the US?

Yes. It prices in your local currency for your country and, if you give it, your town or city, because labour rates vary a lot from place to place.

Ranges on this page are typical US figures for guidance. Your estimate is priced for your own room and location. Always get written quotes from licensed local professionals before you commit.
